The purpose of this project is to exemplify the relationship between form and function. In this project, we were given the task of designing an existing bridge and adding the ability to allow water traffic to pass through. This was achieved by studying the movements of everyday objects. We used these objects to create a 30’ x 40’ opening for the traffic to seep through.

This project challenged me to think differently about normal objects. There was a skill of analyzing the objects to come up with a solution to this problem given to me. Using this skill I was able to come up with my solution for the bridge.

Preliminary Design/Starting Point

My final design is a combination of the Cantilever bridge with the wine bottle opener. First, I brought the left side of the bridge up to create space for the opening and the wine bottle opener. After the process is complete, I ended up adding more structure to support the wine bottle opener properly.
